"Sonje Hibbert is a ceramic artist who is influenced
by extensive living and travelling abroad. Working with a variety of
concepts, the current aspect of her figurative work fuses her fascination
of Easter and African Cultures with more traditional West European styles.
These sensual figurative sculptures, whilst being tactile and often
humorous, on a more serious note attempt to portray the cliches that
surround the Western perceptions of the female form.
Whilst a recent residency has opened up the arena to explore the jug
as an iconic domestic vessel, Sonje also researched methods of portraying
the wider more unspoken concerns relating to the human condition. A
recent context deals with the aftermath of modern day conflicts and
genocide, essentially influenced by the latest warfare in Iraq."
