Ceramics

Paul Finlay

I live in the coastal town of Fowey working from my studio ‘Three Fishes Pottery’.  My work takes inspiration from the sea, both in the use of colour within my work and subject matter.

I am a keen sailor and enjoy being on and around the water. I specialise in terracotta earthenware pottery decorated in coloured slips.  I make thrown, and hand built pottery using course textured terracotta with a range of slip decoration techniques, combining traditional slip trailing with brushed slips, paper resist and incised decoration techniques.

The pottery is glazed with either clear or honey earthenware glaze and fired to 1120*c in an electric kiln.  My work can be seen in the Ebenezer Gallery in Polperro, and the Bowji Gallery at Roskillys, St Keverne on the Lizard.

I have exhibited my work at the Contemporary Crafts Festival at Bovey Tracey and at RHS Rosemoor as part of Westcountry Potters Association Exhibitions.

I take part in ‘Open Studios’ during the Fowey Arts Trail supporting the Fowey Festival in early May each year and the annual CCGG Exhibition held in Cornwall.

I am a member of East Cornwall Society of Artists, Cornwall Ceramics & Glass Group, Westcountry Potters Association and an Associate Member of the Craft Potters Association.
